With an assistant built to handle a wide range of consumer and corporate tasks, Google is competing with Microsoft and ChatGPT for the top spot in generative AI technology (Chatbot).
In several of its most well-known programs, Google has now announced that conversational chatbot Bard will be integrated. Users will be able to search YouTube and Google Docs as well as receive responses to inquiries that resemble those of a real being.
With other leading generative AI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing conversational AI tool (which is also based on ChatGPT), Bard is in fierce competition. Through its own Copilot chatbot assistant, Microsoft has integrated ChatGPT capability to its collection of Microsoft 365 business productivity and collaboration products.
According to Max Ball, a principal analyst with Forrester Research, Google and Microsoft are pursuing internal use cases for chatbots to boost staff productivity, and Salesforce is now making a move for their market.
“Talking to a knowledgeable assistant who can answer all of your questions and properly summarize the information for you has value. However, the value increases to a new level when systems are able to obtain precise data that is typically hidden in back-end systems and carry out actual operations, according to Ball.
Einstein Copilot, a conversational assistant built into the workflow of every Salesforce application, was updated earlier this month by Salesforce. Users can ask queries on the app using natural language, and Salesforce Data Cloud’s exclusive company data will provide replies.
Google claims that its new Bard Extensions functions as a natural language assistant that can search for information across Google products, similar to Copilot, which can automate activities and serve as an assistant in Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, and other applications. Users may search Google Docs, summarize Gmail messages, and even assist in vacation planning by using Google Flights to look up airline fares.
For instance, Google says that when someone is planning a trip, they can now ask Bard to find the dates that work for everyone on a Gmail thread, look up current flight and lodging information, use Google Maps to get to the airport, and even watch YouTube videos of things to do at the destination — all within one conversation.
Google wrote in a blog post that users may ask Bard to start a trip planning Doc for them and their friends, create an online marketplace listing, or assist with teaching their children a science concept.
Google has previously experimented with genAI assistants. The business declared its Duet AI was generally accessible for Workspace productivity apps last month. Duet’s price will be comparable to Microsoft’s planned Copilot tool because the Duet AI features will cost $30 per user each month.
Although the Bard chatbot supports 40 different languages, Extensions will initially only accept English-language requests.
Users can use Bard’s “Google it” option to confirm the search engine’s first conclusions after receiving responses in English. Google explained that when users click the “G” icon, Bard will read the response and determine whether there is web content that supports it. “When a statement can be evaluated, click the underlined phrases to learn more about the information Search has discovered that supports or contradicts the statement.”
When a user sends a public link to a Bard chat, the recipient can follow along, ask Bard further questions about the subject, or use the discussion as inspiration for new ideas.
The updated PaLM 2 big language model that Google added to the chatbot’s platform in order to improve Bard’s accuracy is included in the new features of Bard Extensions.
Before chatbot technology can be considered mature and carry out more complex tasks like placing orders, transferring money between accounts, or scheduling appointments and flights, according to Forrester’s Ball, there is still work to be done.
However, in order to handle shopping carts or update CRM systems, there will need to be additional capability, according to Ball.
The following will probably be the chatbots’ development path:
- constructing a generative AI system that communicates with customers to learn what they want or need to know.
- establishing a connection with CRM or other back-end systems to collect particular data or carry out transactions.
- recognizing when a human agent is necessary and transferring all necessary information to that agent.
