In a bid to “promote the universal application of latest AI technologies”, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom have integrated DeepSeek’s models into their scenarios and products, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said in a notice on Saturday.
The three firms, which have been working on their own large language models (LLMs) over the past two years amid a global frenzy triggered by OpenAI, will mainly use the DeepSeek models in their cloud services, according to a report on Sunday from Communications Weekly, a newspaper overseen by the ministry.
China Mobile, the largest wireless carrier in China, has integrated the models into its computing platform, offering services based on all versions of the DeepSeek models – from DeepSeek-V1 to the latest DeepSeek-R1 – to various business clients, without regard to their size. Users can access the models, deploy application programming interfaces and create new AI agents on its platform, the company said.
China Telecom and China Unicom are offering services based on DeepSeek-R1, a reasoning model, on their cloud computing platforms. China Telecom is the largest fixed broadband service and has overtaken China Unicom over the past few years to become the second largest mobile carrier in the country.
The adoptions are the latest by China’s key infrastructure service providers. The models have triggered a wave of AI deployments across China’s tech sector, from major cloud service providers and chip developers to hardware companies that make personal computers and electric vehicles.
